Naval Base Sasebo Japan - Sasebo is home to a US Navy base, Fleet Activities Sasebo (FAS) and the Japan Self-Defense Force. Sasebo is very travel friendly and a great place to slow down and enjoy Japan. While most Japanese cities are very busy, Sasebo is quiet and Japanese at the same time. The US Navy has military bases and housing for veterans. About 5000 sailors and marines reside in Sasebo, and downtown Sasebo has a designated area known as Sailor Town. It is small and US. The nearest airport is in Nagasaki (Omura Airport, 30 minutes to 1 hour by car from Nagasaki) from where you can take a bus to Sasebo (80 minutes, ¥1350). Another nearby airport is in Fukuoka, from where you can take a bus to Sasebo (about 2 hours, ¥2200).

Sasebo is connected to Hakata Station by Midori Limited Express Train, the last stop of the Sanyo Shinkansen in Fukuoka. The train arrives in Sasebo in 1 hour 45 minutes, reverses at Haiki Station and costs ¥3740 each way. For what it's worth, it's probably only useful for Japan Rail Pass holders (where the train can be taken at no extra charge) or passengers traveling through the Shinkan.
Local trains from Hakata cost only ¥2070, but can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, requiring multiple train changes; In such cases, you are better off using the bus (see below). When traveling on the Midori Limited Express, a one-way ticket from Hakata to Sasebo costs ¥2500, a return ticket costs ¥4500. The journey takes just 1 hour 47 minutes.
You can take an overnight bus to Fukuoka or Nagasaki from the rest of the country and connect with another bus or train for the final run to Sasebo.
Downtown Sasebo and the shopping arcade are easily accessible on foot. For remote areas, bus services or taxis are recommended. Like other major metropolitan areas in Japan, Sasebo does not have a subway or rail system to connect various inner-city points. It also lacks Nagasaki's street car system, so if you don't have a car, you'll need to rent an Artal car or use other resources.

Saspa - North-west of Sasebo. This is a local hideout that most sailors fail to discover. If you ask SASPA in a taxi they will take you there. For about US$30 on the upside you can use a traditional Japanese spa (gender separate) with hot, mineral, salt and cold tubs. When you're done you get your PJs on and you can eat or go to the observation room and enjoy some free time. There is a movie room and a bedroom with paid for messages. You can stay overnight and check out by 10:00 the next day. A night's sleep and taxi fare with all the spa time you can manage is about US$30 if you don't mind sharing.
Sasebo's most famous dish is the American-style hamburger, due to the US Navy's influence on the city. It usually consists of a fried egg and bacon or ham. Look for restaurants "certified" by the Sasebo Burger Association, so you know you're getting the "real" deal. Most certified shops are located in the suburban Sasebo area.
The city's drinking establishments were roughly divided between those catering to base personnel and the general population. However, economic conditions have greatly reduced these differences.
Bars are very interesting places for the Geralt population and the owners are very funny. Although they don't claim to be chatty, they all happily engage in chat conversations.

Sasebo Naval Base (Japanese: 佐世保地地, Hepburn: Sasebo Keichi), also known simply as JMSDF Sasebo Naval Base, is a group of ports and land facilities of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), scattered around Sasebo City, various districts of Kyushu, and where Sasebo district forces are located.

On 16 September 1953, the Coastal Security Force of the National Security AGC was reorganized to protect the Western Seas. When the Sasebo District Force was reorganized, the Coast Guard initially designated Sasebo, but after the Pacific War, the city of Sasebo planned to transform into a peaceful industrial city under the Former Military Port City Conversion Act. So they were not always quick to attract guards. The city of Imari actively campaigned to attract a guard base there. The city of Sasebo hoped to suddenly attract troops and decided to replace the former naval defense force (Hizukushimachi), which had begun to develop as a fishing base.
